Week 12: Media Sharing sticky icon

This week is the last of our "content" weeks where we turn our attention to one of the biggest 2.0 trends -- media sharing. As you probably know, media sharing refers to sites that facilitate sharing of various media, like images and video files. Media sharing, both as a trend, and as a technology, has the potential to have a big impact on libraries, so I'm eager to hear your thoughts on what libraries can do with the tools, as well as the issues libraries need to be aware of around media sharing. All content for this week is here.

Week 11: Gaming & Virtual Worlds

I really enjoyed all the spirited discussion around social networks on your blogs last week! Hopefully you'll find this week's content similarly engaging, as this week, we turn our attention to gaming & virtual worlds. Reading Week Begins!

Hi everyone - just a quick reminder that next week is Reading Week, so you won't be hearing from me on the blog! I will be around though, cathing up on marking group projects (apologies for the delay in getting this done), so if you're around and would like to chat about anything, you know where to find me.

Have a great week, everyone!

Week 8: Folksonomies

On to week 8! This week we're taking a closer look at folksonomies, which builds directly on last week's conversations around Social Bookmarking & Tagging. This week we look at the advantages and limitations of folksonomies & distributed classification, paying particular attention to how these trends impact libraries and library services (such as OPACs). All content for this week is right here.

Here are a couple of reminders for this week:

Week 7: Social Bookmarking & Tagging

Welcome to week 7! This week we begin our exploration of
social bookmarking and tagging. Since we’ve all been contributing content to the "lis9763" tag in del.icio.us since week 1, this week we’re going to reflect on how the process of distributed research via social bookmarking has been working for us. Additionally, we’ll begin our discussion of how tagging and social bookmarking tools might be used in a library setting. All content for week 7 is here.

Week 6: Wikis

Welcome to week 6! This week we’re turning our attention to wikis: what they are, how they work, how they facilitate online collaboration, the software options, and of course, how wikis are being used (and can be used) in libraries. Your readings, case studies & activities for the week are posted here.

Just one reminder for this week: our course chat is on Thursday, June 5 at 8 pm Eastern. We'll be meeting in this room. Talk to you then!

Week 4: RSS

Welcome to week 4! Weeks 4 and 5 are devoted to RSS and this week we're spending our time becoming familiar with the basics of RSS: the terminology, the history of RSS, and an intro to some of the ways in which libraries are using RSS (which we will continue to explore in week 5). The readings, case studies & activities for this week are right here.
