Week 12: Blog Holiday the Second
I'm calling in my second blog holiday today.
But fear not, I'll be back later today with my write up about this week's group project (Media Sharing)... see you then!
Week 11: Libraries: it's time put on your game face!
Since I've been a long time gamer (in spite of not having the time or money to play so much in recent years), I was quite eager to get into this topic, especially because all of my years of gaming seemed to create a pretty black-and-white notion that gaming and libraries don't mix (at least in a practical way). I'm happy to say that this week's readings really got me out of that mindset, though I am still cautious about mixing gaming and libraries.
Week 10: Making the Library Social Again!
I finally get a topic that I actually feel like I know the material for beforehand (in spite of my belief at the beginning of the term I had lots of Web 2.0 experience). :)
The debates for this week's readings were really interesting to me, not only because I'm a social networking site fanatic, but also because I generally consider myself a proponent of freedom of access and speech.
Week 7: "Tag, you're it!" Why libraries should be "it".
I've found this week's topic to be really intriguing. I've only recently (well, within the last year or so) gotten into the tagging thing but really hadn't thought about it too much. Though I realized it was a very social thing to do, I really didn't connect it to LIS at all and Lee Rainie's article really showed me the ways in which tagging grew up from LIS. It seems only reasonable that it come back to LIS, too, in that sense.
Week 6: Blog holiday.
I'm calling in my first blog holiday this week. :D
Co-op mid-term report and resumes for co-ops make Brent a busy boy.
See you all on Wednesday evening!
To my fellow "Media Sharing" group members: should we propose some meeting time (or even have a little chat) to get the ball rolling on our project over the next week or so?
Week 5: RSS and libraries.
The longer I take this course, the more I feel like an old geezer. As a Gen X-er, I always felt like I was pretty "hip" to new trends and scoffed at the notion that Gen-Y-ers or Milennials--or whatever the going term is today--were somehow more adept with technology than me. The further I study the tools in this course, the more I realize how "out of the loop" I really was, and how much this course will benefit me in trying to be a librarian with a fresh perspective on technology.
Week 4: RSS; or, get your news piping hot!
This is probably not going to be a very substantial blog for me. Until I set up the two feeds for this course, I didn't use RSS at all, and I'm not experienced with RSS beyond that.
Week 3: Best Practice in Professional Blogging
I hope everyone was able to enjoy their long weekend this week. I've always found it odd that people would celebrate Victoria Day with lots of drinking, given that it's a holiday based on a Queen who wasn't exactly known for excess. :P
First things first, my blog list: I don't visit a lot of blogs, so I don't feel I have many examples of blogs to share. The ones that I do visit are:
The metablog?
It occurs to me that writing a blog about blogging must be a metablog, but I digress.
First off, on a matter of curisoity: do any of you folks know anything of filmmaking, digital camcorders or the software that would allow one to edit digitally shot movies on a computer? I'm considering picking up a low-end HD camcorder (my little "co-op gift"), but don't really know much of the technology. Though I'd like to say it's for my media sharing project, it's primarily for having fun and amateur filmmaking. Does anyone have any thoughts on that matter?
