Evaluation
There were many different technologies that we examined in this thirteen week course. Today I will be evaluating what we have looked at. I believe that the library, if many haven't, should be implementing if not all of these technologies some, in order to have a present in an increasingly online world. Many people today would rather be able to access content online than have to physically walk into a building to gain access to material.
Best Practices
Over the term we have examined many different kinds of social software that has been utilized in the library. What I will examine in my blog this week are the best practices to use when thinking of implementing this technology into the library.
Knowing Your Audience
Media Sharing Group Project
The topic that we had for our group project was media sharing. There were many initial ideas of what we could do with this topic, including Greg's idea of Rainy Day at the library. This was decided as being to exclusive and might deter people from the library and we wanted to try and be as inclusive as possible. We eventually decided to use the media to try and promote the different things that the library has as well as to help increase the use of the library through these online media.
Media Sharing
Media sharing is has become in recent years a very popular way to share audio, video and photos over the internet. It wasn't all that long ago when this was an impossibility due to the size and the slowness of dial-up interent. Through the use of high-speed interent the ability to share media has become easier and extremely useful.
Week 11
Taking my second blog holiday. See everyone next week :)
Online Social Networks
For this week I actually had some actual experience and knowledge with this technology. My main experience has been with Facebook but have known about MySpace and other networks.
Folksonomies
When looking at the title for this weeks topic I really did not have any clue what it would be about. So everything this week has been completely new to me, but I found it to be an interesting topic to read up on. I really like the idea of Folksonomies, where everyone can equally create a classification scheme about a topic through the use of tagging. I like that, instead of people at the topic forcing taxonomies on people, people can now decide how a topic, subject or whatnot is classified in their own terms.
