Case Studies

I was looking over the blogs for the case studies for week two and thinking about how each of them worked in very different types of libraries. I thought it was interesting that the blog could be in a library setting either really formal or informal depending on the type of library it was designed for. As well, I thought it was interesting that some of the libraries were using the blog as a way to announce events that would be occuring at the library, while others used it to talk about different issues. It was interesting to experience these different types of blogs and see how blogs can be used in the library setting for various things.

One of the uses of blogs in the library that we haven't seen is using them for internal communication among staff members (for obvious reasons- they would probably be behind firewalls). I think there is a lot of potential for librarians to cut across hierarchies and departments (technical services, reference services, etc) to share ideas with each other, post about conferences they attended, new policies coming out and so on.

I agree, Amy - I can see great potential for an internal blog (I'm in fact developing one for my final project), and can see it working in many types of organizations, as a way to eliminate monthly newsletters, keep a large group of people informed, and allow a large group to participate in a discussion or sharing of ideas...I think this is perhaps one way that blogs aren't being used to their full potential, and one way they will change in the near future.
