Introductions

By katrina - Posted on 06 May 2008

Hello everyone! I'm on a co-op term in Ottawa this summer and hope that this course will lend me a hand at work. One of my projects this summer is to help develop a wiki for this particular library and I don't have much experience with the majority of social software.

I'm afraid to admit that social software is largely new territory for me. This is my first blog ever and all of the tools that we will be learning about in 9763 are pretty much new to me -- especially the creation aspect to this software.

I'm really looking forward to getting some familiarity with these tools under my belt. I hope that taking this course at the same time as working on a wiki at my co-op will give me a solid ground to these new tools!

Hi Katrina - welcome to the course! Glad to hear that you're working on "2.0 stuff" in your co-op -- you'll have to keep us posted on how that goes!

hi katrina,

Just curious...but is your co-op possibly at NRCAN? (feel free not to answer if you would prefer to keep it private) I also did a co-op term in Ottawa and one of my colleagues was involved with the NRCAN wiki. Her project really intrigued me...a wiki as a collaboration tool and info portal...very interesting stuff for a government department library :)

hi Rebecca,
I'm not at NRCAN, but rather at the Public Service Labour Relations Board. It's quite a small library so we'll have to see how this project takes off. I haven't received a lot of information about how the wiki will be used, but it sounds like it has potentially multiple uses (as you described it is being used at NRCAN).
We'll have to wait and see!
