Evaluation

There were many different technologies that we examined in this thirteen week course. Today I will be evaluating what we have looked at. I believe that the library, if many haven't, should be implementing if not all of these technologies some, in order to have a present in an increasingly online world. Many people today would rather be able to access content online than have to physically walk into a building to gain access to material.

One of the most crucial technologies that libraries should be utilizing is the blog. It is such a simple technology that people can pick up easily that can give patrons access to a large number of information. By just having a librarian writing a blog on events at the library or reviewing books, it might lead patrons to the library by having it online. They may gain a committed user group that reads the blog every time its updated.

Another technology that I think would implement simple and have a large impact would be the social networking sites. It does not take a large amount of time to create an account on any of these sites for the library, it may lead a younger audience into the library, which is always a desired action.

Some of the technologies that I thought might have a harder time being implemented and used all the time were the media technologies. While I think it would be a great idea having the library using a variety of different media to showcase what the library would be offering, I think there might be resistance from librarians in carrying out these projects. As well as some of the gaming technologies. While I think its a fantastic idea and could bring into the library a younger audience, I think some libraries may not be able to afford some of the technology that would be required to host some of the events.
