Hello everyone!

By maureen - Posted on 12 May 2008

A little bit late on my introduction (computer recently crashed :S) but it's nice to "meet" you all! My name is Maureen and I'm currently doing a third term in MLIS, although only part-time this summer while I work full-time.

I was excited to see this course offered, as it seems like a very new-age and progressive type of library-related tool, and I think it'll be exciting to study a phenomenon that is taking place right now. My experience with social software is fairly wide-ranging. I jumped on the bandwagon back during the ICQ days, and this led to trying out Friendster, Hi5, MSN, Facebook, Wikipedia and others, although only a couple have stuck with me over years. I also once had a personal blog, but mostly just used it as an online journal.

I have to be honest and say that I would never have considered utilizing these things in a library, but I think it will be interesting to discuss the possibilities and experience social software at the same time. I hope to learn more about wikis, tagging, and RSS feeds as I have not had much experience in this area.
