Week one posting - Social Software is every-ware
Wow, there is a lot involved in Social Software. Sure, I haven't been blogging before, but I have been surprisingly using all sorts of Social Software and subconsciously, I didn't even know it! Concerned about feedback in your e-bay profile - that's me. Creating groups on your own in Facebook - I've done that, too. Uploading photos - guilty as charged. We are definitely onto something with the social aspect of computing, and there are many different ways that these tools can be used to enhance library experiences for library users. A library could have its own MySpace page, or try and possibly set-up a branch in Second Life to attract users as well. All of this information is making my head swim, but, the future of libraries in relation to the use of social software seems to be quite intriguing!

I agree with you Chris, there's a lot of social software that has crept into my life and I do use a fair amount of it without realizing it. I also haven't blogged before, but like yourself, I have created and controlled different accounts on-line in different capacities.
cheers
Hi Chris,
It's interesting you mentioned libraries and Myspace pages...I took a class a few semesters ago (the title escapes me now) and we had a guest speaker from the London Public Library come in to talk about some innovative things she was doing there. She was the YA librarian, I believe, and had begun a Myspace page as a way to interact with youth in a forum that was both familiar and interesting to them to draw them into the library - and apparently it was working really well. Plus she instituted Guitar Hero nights @ the LPL, which is pretty cool in my book...

Chris,
I completely agree that it is everywhere - it could be because I'm in this class, and I'm tuned into it - but all of "my" programs last Thursday night looked at or talked about some social software (blogs, facebook, etc.). It kind of blew me away.
