Blogging Events in Libraries
I think that the most useful function that a blog can provide forĀ a library, and it has been done often by looking at the case studies, is a way to post news and events. What I think is lacking though is the personalization of these posts, which is especially important in public libraries. Instead of only posting information about an event before it takes places, there is also the potential for a librarian who attended the event to blog about their experience and invite the public to do so also. This would be a great way for others who couldn't attend to know what went on and also a way for the library to know which events were successful and not so successful.

Great idea Amy!
I think you've highlighted the importance of using blogs creatively and to their full potential. Following up a blog post for an event with a post about what happened at the event, and encouraging participants or speakers to post is a great way to promote dialogue and attract interest.
I think you're absolutely right about librarians commenting and giving first hand accounts of programming in a blog. I know that specifically at LPL, librarians and library tech's have chosen to contribute to blogs about events and programming. While I worked there I noticed that although staff were keen to blog, there were frequently time commitment issues.
Blogging is one more thing for a library staff person to do during their shift along with all the other tasks that they are assigned to do. Hopefully as blogs and social software becomes more commonplace in the work environment, there will be scheduled time allowed for blogging and not something that gets done only when everything else is quiet!
At Guelph PL, we are currently using this concept for our adult book clubs as a means of alerting patrons to what was discussed at the book club meetings, in case someone was unable to attend or if someone was curious as to how the book club worked, they could read the blog and get a sense of how the book club opertes. Another great way of using modern technology to connect people to thier library.
