Week Thirteen : How Social do I feel?
This week, I'm going to look at the more personal reflection aspects of these final weeks, mostly because the majority of my free time is going to finishing the project, and I'd like to do a discussion of social software in libraries and best practices justice.
Introduction
Hi everyone,
This will be my final course in the MLIS program (about time - I started back in the fall of '06). I'm currently working at a special library, and as part of my job I've written blog entries and researched options for online reference service software. I've been interested in learning more about RSS and tagging, and I expect that a lot of the course material will have a strong relevance to my work.
About me: Introductory Blog
I am currently a part-time student in my third semester at fims. I am working at IBM for the summer and returning to school in the fall term. I have to admit I have little experience with the concept of social software. However, on a daily basis I access blogs, social networks and community intranets. Last semester I was able to take 520, digital libraries. Though much different, this course gave me a great introduction to HTML, digital formats in the library and the creation of community based libraries.
Introductions
Hi everyone,
I just finished up my second term of co-op in Toronto and I'm continuing in my position on contract until the end of the summer. I'm working in a special library in a non-profit organization - taking this course couldn't have come at a better time as we are in the (very) early stages of experimenting with a wiki for use in my department at work!
Hi! My Intro!
I'm glad to finally be taking this class since it was one of the ones I'd notcied on the course listings in spring 2007 when I applied and I was quite excited about it!
Although I avoided the BBS craze, I was one of the first people in my town in Newfoundland to actually get excited about the Internet. I spent a lot of time there and looking back, it baffles me now how much things have changed. Ideas like streaming videos, truly interactive sites and Web 2.0 would have seemed like a joke to me at the time--or at least wishful thinking, but here we are!
Intro
Hi Everyone, All of this social software stuff is pretty new to me. I used some staff blogs and wikis during my co-op, and got to sit in on some information sessions about possibilities for a more 2.0-like catalogue, which was great. Social software was big at my academic library, and I suspect at most other libraries too, so I’m hoping to get caught up by taking this course. So far, I’ve not gotten much further than an underused Facebook account.
