Evaluating Social Software for libraries

Wow, what a whirlwind of social software technology we have
looked at in the past 14 weeks. While all of these technologies have some use
in a library setting, some are more conducive to the library environment than
others. I really like the ideas we looked at with media sharing, as I think
this is a medium where libraries can really show how far they have come and use
media sharing as a great marketing tool to show your library to the world. This
also seems like an easily implemented medium, as most (if not all) libraries

Week 12: The Sharing Trend

This week's topic is one of my favourites, as I believe that visual media such as photographs and videos can speak to people in different ways than print, and I think it speaks loudly that online media sharing software such as YouTube and Flickr have exploded over recent years.  They have creating vast communication channels that began as just entertainment at first, but upon exploring them, it seems they can be used for a wide range of uses in addition to fun (because who doesn't like fun?).

Week 12: You can only share what other people want

Advertising is a visual experience. Users are accustomed to seeing information and being drawn in by interesting images. Photographs are a terrific visual representation for users to glance at and be drawn into. They are not the average laborious ‘what's new at the library' article.

I think you can use media such as Flickr and YouTube as a means of enhancing your library services. Especially since these days everyone is a Rockstar. People want to see themselves. Other people want to see their friends.

Week 12

Well it's that time of the semester when I regret leaving my assignments to the end... Consequently I also regret blowing through my holidays. With that being said I was still quite happy reading the articles this week as I found them both interesting and informative. I have very limited experience with flicker and have never posted on youtube although I do enjoy watching videos for information and enjoyment.

Week 12: Media Sharing

The realm of media sharing is so large, and the possibilities so great,
it would be impossible to do it justice in a single week. After all, the
Internet, even the old text-based, Web 1.0 Internet, was about media
sharing (mostly in the form of text). With the advent of sites like
Flickr and Youtube, the technical barriers to sharing wide varieties of
media have been removed. But it doesn't end with video and photos -
Googledocs, slideshare and scribd all provide new ways for users to share
media.

Media Sharing

Media sharing is has become in recent years a very popular way to share audio, video and photos over the internet. It wasn't all that long ago when this was an impossibility due to the size and the slowness of dial-up interent. Through the use of high-speed interent the ability to share media has become easier and extremely useful.
